Our Adoption Requirements
1. Companionship
Rats are highly social pack animals. Under no circumstances will a lone rat be adopted out unless you already have a resident rat and provide verification of a compatible mischief.
2. Housing & Space
- Bar Spacing: Maximum of 1/2 inch wire spacing to prevent escapes and injuries.
- Dimensions: Minimum 2–2.5 cubic feet of volume per rat.
- Flooring: Solid or fleece-covered ramps and shelves only. Wire mesh bottoms are strictly prohibited due to bumblefoot risks.
- Ventilation: Aquariums, glass tanks, and plastic storage tubs are unsuitable due to poor air circulation and ammonia buildup.
3. Veterinary Care
Adopters must identify an established exotic veterinarian clinic capable of treating small mammals before taking any animals home.
4. Return Guarantee
If at any point in the rat's lifetime an adopter is unable to keep them, rats adopted from Brandon Rattery must be returned to us rather than surrendered to municipal shelters or rehomed online.
